This is one of the most common questions we get asked, and unfortunately there is no clear cut, straight answer- it totally depends. There are quite a few factors to take into account when considering what to pay for a baby sitter including:
Surveys around the country end up reporting a range for babysitting rates anywhere from $4 -$15 or even higher. At the lower end of that range you will find younger, less experienced sitters in less-populated, lower cost of living areas. At higher end are older, more experienced sitters in major, expensive cities.
Our best advice is to talk to other moms in your area, find out what they pay for similar responsibilities, and most importantly, discuss these issues with your potential babysitters to make sure the price paid is in line with the current going rate, and is going to be something that is acceptable for all parties involved.Lila Frost on Jul 16, 2012
